HELLO WAS HAPPY WITH VONAGE , UP TO THE POINT WHEN THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME 116.00 TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT.WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR SERVICE YOU AGREE TO A ONE YEAR CONTRACT FOR SERVICE, AND UPON ENDING THAT CONTRACT YOU STILL MUST PAY A CANCELLATION FEE OF 40.00. THEN I WAS UNDER THE ONE YEAR CONTRACT SO THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE LITTLE UNIT THEY USE TO CONNECT TO YOUR COMPUTOR. OK MY MISTAKE I THOUGHT VONAGE WAS A GOOD COMPANY. THEY ALSO WANTED ME TO SIGN UP A FRIEND AND TRANSFER MY ACCOUNT TO THEM, I HAD TO LAUGH AT THAT THEY MUST BE NUTS. ITS TO BAD THEY HAD TO SHOW THEM SELFS LIKE THIS. I WOULD NOT TELL ANYONE TO TRY THIS SERVICE. THE 24.00 A MONTH TURNS INTO ABOUT 32.00 A MONTH WITH TAX'S AND FEE'S.

I am still a Vonage customer and they gave me a hard time when I wanted to transder a few mumbers from them. They don't acknowledge the transfer time that is set by the FCC and they try to get you for at least another month if not more. I've been a customer since 2006 so they did not even try the scam on a 2 year contract. I would report your experinece to the better business bureau and I would also send an email to me at HS@holgerstenberg.com because I have had some severe cancellation issues with them and I can prove it. I'm looking to get as many names as possible to be intersting enough to file a class action suit regarding their cancellation policies.

I just cancelled their service today and had to go through the same story. $110 for "recovery fee" which was buried in sec. 8.8 of TOS? They admit they can charge whatever they want since they have different promos.
Anyone want to file a joint lawsuit?

I had the same thing happen to me. We thought we had a one-year contract and then when we cancelled after the one year, they told us we had a two-year deal. They are awful.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I tried to cancel because my new internet service was not compatible with vonage. They (vonage) tried to charge me over $100 for the vonage connector unit, plus a $39.95 cancellation fee. They said I had a 1-yr contract and that I could cancel without these fees if I waited 4 months until my year contract was up. I did this, called exactly 1 year and 1 day from 1st day of service, they told me I now had a 2 YEAR contract with them so I would still be charged a cancellation fee. They refused to acknowledge I ever had only a 1 year contract and would not confirm that an agent of theirs had told me that. After I already told them at least 4 times my internet service was incompatible with them (and they confirmed this) they tried to offer me 2 months of free service and 20% discount on their service which they just confirmed would not work for me. I told them no at least 5 more times, then actually had to yell at them to get them to shut up and just cancel my service. I highly discourage anyone to ever use vonage. And the above comment is correct--once all the taxes and extras have been assessed, the monthly service was around $35 for me, so it borders on false advertising unless you read the extra fine print. Please do not ever use their service.
